Literacy by definition is the ability to read and write while being competent and knowledgeable. How alarming is it that “175 million young people in lower-middle-income countries are unable to read a single sentence. That’s one out of every four children not knowing how to read”. The United States has been battling this literacy crisis for many years and it disproportionately affects lower-income communities. With knowing a problem, we can take the steps needed to find solutions for improving it, if not solving it. Without literacy, one may never reach their full potential, thus making it hard for them to succeed in life.

Take the Journey

In Jade's Journey, Jade had a journal that she wrote in often. Although she shared her thoughts with her parents, her journal was also another safe place to release her feelings daily. Jade's parents fill her with positive words of encouragement.

Those words are what helped her push through on her first day of school, and other daily scenarios.

A letter from her dad is what kept a smile on her face when all she wanted to do was break down and cry.

The letter read: "Remember how incredible you are. Remember how beautiful you are and how rare. I love you, my gem!"

Affirmations are positive statements that when said frequently can help us in conditioning our subconscious mind, changing our focus and altering our thought patterns. All very powerful! While knowing this, my thought when creating these cards was self-confidence is essential and if instilled in you from an early age it becomes second nature.
