Jade and I are similar in many ways because life for a sixth grader is stressful. I love this book so much that I highlight and underline things that I can relate to. I also love how Jade resolves certain issues.

Avid Sixth Grade Reader

Jade's Journey is a blessing for children of color. At a time when our children are beset with enormous pressures the author's character models insight and perseverance. Look out for this author, I suspect there is more to come.

-Lloyd M. Bowers, LCSW

As a Principal, I am always searching for innovative ways to engage my students in learning and help them fall in love with reading. When I came across the book, Jade's Journey, I was thoroughly impressed and excited to share it with my students because the character, Jade, was so relatable to so many of my young readers. In "Jade's Journey," Jade has to learn how to manage change, loss and new adventures all at the same time. I believe that children will fall in love with Jade's quick wit and honest emotions as she struggles through being a pre-teen in the big city. Each chapter exposes readers to high-level vocabulary words and pushes them to use context clues, figurative language and syntax to define the meaning of unknown words. Over the years I have noticed that understanding vocabulary words is a very difficult skill for students to master and often stops them from comprehending what they read. Needless to say, students will gain a ton of useful knowledge from reading this book, tips on how to manage difficult situations and enjoy themselves while reading. I would highly recommend this book!

I like this book because it reminds me of my move from South Caroline to St. Louis. It’s a wonderful story about her sadness, happiness, and excitement as she moves to a new city.

The Engagement Game

As the founder of an organization dedicated to empowering girls to explore the world, it's important to have an organization like Finding the JEMS available in our communities. Throughout the pages of a great book, a girl can find courage, adventure and guidance to soar. Said best by Dr. Seuss himself, "Oh the places you'll go!"

Finding the JEMS is giving back in a huge way by making reading fun again at all ages.
